Bureau of Apparatus Maintenance & Service (BAMS)

The responsibility of the Bureau of Automotive Maintenance and Service (B.A.M.S.) is to ensure a safe and highly functional fleet of emergency apparatus and response vehicles to support the mission of the Waterbury Fire Department.

This is accomplished through the detailed research of modern firefighting equipment and apparatus and the development of technical specifications specific to the needs of the Waterbury Fire Department.  The Bureau focuses on prompt, skillful fleet maintenance and repair service which is carried out at the City of Waterbury’s state of the art Central Vehicle Maintenance Facility.   To this end, the Fleet Supervisor is responsible for establishing and implementing the preventative maintenance schedule for all apparatus, vehicles and equipment.  The B.A.M.S. further maintains all fire department hand-tools and power equipment, which includes generators, hydraulic rescue tools, rotary saws, and vent saws, as well as other specialized fire suppression and rescue related equipment.  All mechanics currently assigned to this Bureau hold ASE and EVT certifications and maintain coverage 24/7.
