Salary and Benefits:
The positions of entry-level Police Officer in the City of Waterbury pays a salary of $43,940 per year. In addition, a liberal fringe benefit package is available which includes medical insurance, retirement plan, sick days, vacation and holiday time.
Minimum Requirements:
At a minimum, all candidates must have a high school diploma or its equivalent. Also, all candidates must be a U.S. Citizen, have a driver's license, and must not have been convicted of a felony criminal charge.
Testing Procedures:
At the present, the City of Waterbury trains all Police Officers at the Police Officer Standard Training (POST) Police Academy in Meriden. The POST has enacted several standards as a requirement for entrance into the Academy. In conjunction with the POST standards, the City of Waterbury assesses candidates for the position of Police Officer using the following methods:
- Written Exam
- Physical Agility Exam
- Oral Exam
- Background/ Polygraph Exam
- Psychological Exam
- Medical Exam
Candidates must successfully complete each component in order to be eligible for appointment as a Police Officer. In addition, candidates must have attained the age of twenty-one (21) before appointment can be made. Candidates can be less than 21 to apply, but will not be eligible for appointment until their 21st birthday.
