Waterbury Brings Parking Into the Digital Age With New Scan&Go System
Official Launch Dates: Thursday, November 5th – Monday, November 9th. During the launch period a phased transition to the new Scan&Go system will occur.
(WATERBURY, CT) Paying for parking in Waterbury is about to get easier. The city is introducing LAZ Parking's Scan&Go system, replacing traditional parking meters with a modern digital payment system that allows motorists to pay for parking directly from their phones in just a few steps.
With the new system, motorists simply scan the QR code on the parking sign, select the amount of time they need, enter their license plate information and payment details, and go. There is no app to download, no paper receipt to place on the windshield and no need to return to the vehicle to display a parking slip.
The convenience continues after motorists park. If plans change and more time is needed, they can extend their parking session directly from their phone without returning to their vehicle. Motorists will be able to manage their parking time while visiting downtown businesses, attending appointments or conducting other business in the city.
“This is an important step in bringing Waterbury's parking system up to date with the technology people use every day,” said Mayor Paul K. Pernerewski, Jr. “The new system makes paying for parking simple. You scan the QR code, enter your information, pay and go. And if you're running late or need a little more time, you can extend your parking session right from your phone instead of having to go back to your car. It's a much more convenient way to park, and we're pleased to bring this improvement to Waterbury.”
Parking Rates Will Remain the Same
While the payment process is changing, parking rates will remain unchanged. Existing parking meters will be removed as the city transitions to the new system.
The city also recognizes that not everyone uses a smartphone. To provide an alternative, two payment kiosks will be available downtown. One will be located in the Library parking lot, and the other will be in front of City Hall on Grand Street. Both kiosks will accept credit cards.
The new system will serve the city's on-street parking spaces, surface lots and parking garages, bringing parking management under one integrated platform through LAZ Parking.
