UPDATE: Water Main Break on North Main Street; Temporary Water Shutdown Expected During Repairs

(WATERBURY, CT) The City of Waterbury is responding to a 12-inch water main break in the 1100 block of North Main Street, affecting approximately 25 homes, businesses, and Jonathan E. Reed Elementary School.

Water Department crews are on scene preparing to make repairs. Water service in the affected area is expected to be temporarily shut off around noon today while the work is being completed. Repairs are anticipated to take approximately 6 to 8 hours.

As part of the work, crews will also be installing an isolation valve in the area. This is a proactive measure to improve the city's water distribution system and allow crews to isolate water service to Reed School in the event of another break in the future, helping to minimize disruptions to the school.

Jonathan E. Reed Elementary School will dismiss students at 12:00 p.m. today in anticipation of the temporary water shutdown. The Central Office of Waterbury Public Schools will notify parents and guardians through ParentSquare.

Once water service is restored, residents and businesses in the affected area may experience discolored water. Anyone experiencing discolored water should run their bathtub or sink until the water runs clear.

(WATERBURY, CT) The City of Waterbury is responding to a 12-inch water main break in the 1100 block of North Main Street, affecting approximately 12 homes and Jonathan E. Reed Elementary School.

Water Department crews are on scene evaluating the break and preparing for repairs. In the meantime, residents in the surrounding area may experience reduced water pressure.

Jonathan E. Reed Elementary School will dismiss students early today at 12:00 p.m. The Central Office of Waterbury Public Schools will be notifying parents and guardians through ParentSquare with additional information regarding the early dismissal.

Because crews are still assessing the break, an estimated time for completion of repairs is not yet available. The city will provide additional updates and further information once the extent of the damage and anticipated repair timeline are determined.
