City of Waterbury Announces Park Improvements at Four City Parks
(WATERBURY, CT) The City of Waterbury Engineering Department is pleased to announce a series of improvements coming to Berkeley Park, Bucks Hill Park, Washington Park, and Waterville Park. The projects, which will enhance recreational facilities and improve community spaces throughout the city, are scheduled to take place during the late summer and early fall.
“These investments will improve the quality, safety, and accessibility of recreational spaces that residents and families use throughout the year,” said Mayor Paul K. Pernerewski, Jr. “We are pleased to see these projects moving forward and appreciate the work of our Engineering Department and our funding partners to make these improvements possible.”
Berkeley Park
Basketball Court Improvements:
The basketball court at Berkeley Park will receive a new concrete court surface, new posts, backboards and goals, and new player benches. Construction will be completed by Classic Turf Company and funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant Program.
Baseball Field Improvements:
Improvements to the Berkeley Park baseball field will include removing grass and weeds from the overgrown infield and installing a new infield surface. The project will also include repairs to the backstop, installation of new fence fabric on the existing frame, and new team benches. Construction will be completed by Stonehedge Landscaping Company and funded through HUD’s Community Development Block Grant Program.
Bucks Hill Park
Basketball Court Improvements:
The Bucks Hill Park basketball court will receive a new concrete court surface, new posts, backboards and goals, and new player benches. Construction will be completed by Hinding Tennis, LLC and funded by the State of Connecticut through the Local Capital Improvement Program (LoCIP) and Distressed Municipalities Grant Program.
Washington Park Community Center
HVAC Improvements:
The Washington Park Community Center will receive significant HVAC improvements, including air conditioning for the gymnasium and stage area. A rooftop unit will be installed on a grade-level concrete pad, while lobbies, offices, and activity areas will be cooled through exterior heat pumps.
The new system will provide improved cooling while also delivering more efficient heating to supplement the existing system. The entire HVAC system will be controlled through a centralized electronic system.
The project will also require an upgrade to the electrical service, which will be provided by Eversource. The HVAC improvements will be installed by Pro-Mech, Inc. and funded through HUD’s Community Development Block Grant Program.
Waterville Park
Tennis Court Improvements:
Both existing tennis courts at Waterville Park will receive new concrete court surfaces, along with new posts and nets. The fencing surrounding the courts will also be replaced, and new benches will be installed.
Construction will be completed by H.I. Stone & Son, Inc. and funded by the State of Connecticut through the Local Capital Improvement Program (LoCIP) and Distressed Municipalities Grant Program.
The City of Waterbury Engineering Department encourages residents to be aware of construction activity and temporary impacts to park facilities as these projects move forward.
