Water Main Repairs Completed; Water Service Gradually Being Restored Across Affected Areas

(WATERBURY, CT) The City of Waterbury is pleased to announce that Water Department crews and Dayton Construction successfully completed repairs to the second transmission water main break on Tompkins Street at approximately 1:00 a.m. Saturday. Water is now being gradually reintroduced into the system, and service is expected to be restored incrementally as pressure builds throughout the distribution system.

Because water is being restored gradually, some customers may regain service sooner than others as pressure is reestablished throughout the distribution system.

Residents may continue to experience low water pressure and temporary water discoloration as the system returns to normal operation. Discolored water is a common occurrence following a major water main break and is expected to improve as crews continue flushing the water distribution system.

The precautionary Boil Water Notice remains in effect for all affected areas. Residents should continue to boil all water used for drinking, cooking, food preparation, and brushing their teeth for one full minute until the Boil Water Notice has been lifted by the Waterbury Health Department. Water quality testing and system flushing will continue throughout the restoration process. The city will notify residents as soon as the notice has been lifted.

Although repairs have been completed, the city will continue providing resources to residents throughout the weekend while water service is fully restored.

The bottled water distribution site at the Municipal Stadium North Parking Lot, 1200 Watertown Avenue, will remain open during the following hours:

Saturday, August 1: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Sunday, August 2: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Residents are encouraged to bring clean buckets or other containers if they need water for non-drinking purposes, including flushing toilets.

Residents affected by the outage may also utilize shower facilities at the following locations:

Saturday and Sunday: 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Waterbury Career Academy
175 Birch Street
Saturday and Sunday: 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday: 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The city also thanks the Greater Waterbury YMCA for continuing to make its shower facilities available to affected residents:

We appreciate the patience and resilience our residents and businesses have shown throughout this emergency, and we look forward to returning the system to normal operation as soon as it is safe to do so."
