UPDATED: City to Provide Water Main Break Update at New Time and Location

(WATERBURY, CT) Please note the updated time and location. The City of Waterbury will now hold its press conference on the water main break at 4:00 p.m. today, Tuesday, July 28, near the site of the break on Tompkins Street in Waterbury.

Mayor Paul K. Pernerewski, Jr. and Water Superintendent Ray Esponda will provide an update on repair efforts, the impact on water service, and the city's ongoing response.

Earlier today, Water Department crews responded to a significant water main break reported at approximately 4:45 a.m. Crews remain on scene assessing the damage and working to complete repairs. The break has affected water service in the Bunker Hill, Town Plot, and Country Club neighborhoods, with many residents experiencing low water pressure or temporary loss of service.

As a precaution, Waterbury Hospital transitioned to its secondary water supply to ensure continuity of patient care.

"Our crews have been working tirelessly since the early morning hours to assess the damage and restore service as quickly and safely as possible," said Mayor Paul K. Pernerewski, Jr. "This afternoon, we will provide the public with the latest information on repair efforts, expected timelines, and what residents can expect moving forward."

The city will continue to provide updates as additional information becomes available. Residents are encouraged to monitor Alert Waterbury, the city's social media platforms, and the city website for the latest information.

Following completion of the repair, the Water Department will conduct the required water quality testing before the system is returned to normal operation. If a boil water advisory becomes necessary, affected customers will be notified immediately through Alert Waterbury and other official city communication channels.
