Water Main Break
Causes Widespread Service Disruptions in Waterbury
(WATERBURY, CT) The City of Waterbury is
responding to a significant water main break that was reported at approximately
4:45 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, on Tompkins Street near WF Kaynor Technical High
School.
Water Department crews are currently on
scene assessing the extent of the damage and beginning repairs. Due to the
location of the break, power has been shut down at Kaynor Technical High
School.
The break is expected to impact water
service throughout the Bunker Hill, Town Plot, and Country Club neighborhoods.
Residents in these areas may already be experiencing reduced water pressure. As
repairs progress and sections of the water system are isolated, many customers
are expected to temporarily lose water service until repairs are completed.
As a precaution, Waterbury Hospital has
been notified and has begun transitioning to its secondary water supply to
ensure continuity of patient care.
"Our crews were on scene
shortly after the break was reported and have been working since the early
morning hours to assess the damage and begin repairs," said Mayor Paul K.
Pernerewski, Jr. "We know this disruption will have a significant impact
on many residents and businesses, and we appreciate everyone's patience as this
work continues. Restoring water service safely and as quickly as possible is
our top priority, and we will continue to keep the public informed as more
information becomes available."
The city will continue to monitor the
situation throughout the day and will provide updates as additional information
becomes available, including repair timelines and any changes to service
impacts.
Residents are encouraged to monitor the city's
official communication channels for the latest updates. Information will be
shared through Alert Waterbury, the city's social media platforms, and the city
website.
Following completion of the repair, the
Water Department will conduct the required water quality testing before the
system is returned to normal operation. If a boil water advisory becomes
necessary, affected customers will be notified immediately through Alert
Waterbury and other city communication channels.
The city appreciates the public's patience
and cooperation as crews work to restore service safely and efficiently.
