Waterbury Encourages Voluntary Water Conservation Following
State Drought Watch
(WATERBURY, CT) - The City of Waterbury is encouraging residents and
businesses to voluntarily conserve water following the State of Connecticut's
declaration of a Stage 2 Drought Watch for New Haven, Fairfield, and Middlesex
counties.
Governor Ned Lamont announced that prolonged dry conditions and below
average precipitation have prompted the state's drought designation and a
request for voluntary reductions in non-essential water use. While Waterbury's
water system continues to operate normally, residents are encouraged to take
simple conservation measures to help preserve water resources during the peak
summer season.
"Waterbury's water supply remains stable, but conservation is something
we can all do to help protect this valuable resource," said Mayor Paul K.
Pernerewski, Jr. "Small changes in our daily routines can make a
meaningful difference. By voluntarily reducing unnecessary water use now, we
can help ensure a reliable water supply throughout the summer."
Residents and businesses are encouraged to reduce non-essential water use
by:
- Watering lawns and gardens only when
necessary, preferably during the early morning or evening.
- Limiting car washing and postponing
pressure washing of driveways, sidewalks, and buildings.
- Repairing leaking faucets, toilets,
and outdoor irrigation systems.
- Running dishwashers and washing
machines only with full loads.
- Turning off the faucet while brushing
teeth or shaving.
- Using a broom instead of a hose to
clean driveways, sidewalks, and patios.
The City of Waterbury Bureau of Water is continuing to monitor water supply
conditions closely. At this time, the State of Connecticut is requesting
voluntary conservation measures only. There are no mandatory water use restrictions
in effect for Waterbury customers.
The city appreciates the cooperation of residents and businesses in helping
conserve water during this period of dry weather.
