Waterbury Public Schools Honors Outstanding Student Attendance through Ride 2 Success Program

(WATERBURY, CT) The City of Waterbury and Waterbury Public Schools will celebrate four students with exceptional attendance records during the 2025-2026 school year through the Ride 2 Success Attendance Raffle on Thursday, June 18, 2026.

The program recognizes students in grades 3 through 8 who demonstrated an outstanding commitment to attending school throughout the year. As a special reward, selected students will receive a memorable ride to school on the final day of classes in City of Waterbury vehicles, accompanied by a friend from their school.

Mayor Paul K. Pernerewski, Jr., Waterbury Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Darren Schwartz, Waterbury Police Chief Fernando Spagnolo, and Waterbury Fire Chief Javier Lopez will participate in the event and personally help transport the students to their schools.

The students being recognized are:

• Michael Coleman, Maloney Interdistrict Magnet School
• Joniris De Los Angeles, Carrington Elementary School
• Leah Parra-Hernandez, West Side Middle School
• Azania Mokgosi, Hopeville Elementary School

A recognition ceremony will be held at 8:00 a.m. at the Chase Building, 236 Grand Street, where students and their families will gather for light refreshments, certificate presentations, and group photographs before departing for their schools.

"Regular school attendance is one of the strongest predictors of student success," said Mayor Paul Pernerewski "These students have demonstrated a remarkable commitment to their education throughout the school year. We are proud to recognize their dedication and celebrate their achievement in a fun and memorable way."

Dr. Darren Schwartz added, "Every day in school matters. Consistent attendance helps students build strong academic habits, stay connected to their teachers and peers, and maximize their opportunities for success. We are thrilled to honor these students and thank their families for supporting their educational journey."

The Ride 2 Success Attendance Raffle is part of Waterbury Public Schools' ongoing efforts to promote the importance of regular school attendance and recognize students who make education a priority.
