9/5/2016 - 12th Annual Ole Skool Cookout set for Sept. 4 at Lakewood Park

A fine tradition among our African-American community – the annual Ole Skool Cookout – continues this year on Sunday Sept. 4 from noon to 7 p.m. at Lakewood Park.

This event began as a small gathering among friends and has blossomed into an annual event that brings people from near and far to celebrate what unites us – our Waterbury roots. In fact, this year marks the 12th consecutive year this wonderful event will be held.

Thousands of people will come to Lakewood Park on Sunday Sept. 4 to enjoy free food and entertainment made possible by a year’s worth of fundraising activities by the Ole Skool Committee. Their motto - “We care, We share” – speaks to the spirit of fellowship and community that this event has come to represent.

This cookout has grown into a weekend of events. It starts the evening of Friday Sept.2 with Meet & Greet event at the NOW Auditorium, 238 North Elm Street and continues Saturday Sept. 3 with a gathering at Our Lady of Fatima Church from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. There is a fee for this event.

The Ole Skool Cookout is Sunday at Lakewood Park, followed by Satch’s Official Cookout After Party at Our Lady of Fatima. There is also a modest fee for the After Party.
