3/18/2016 - Mayor to receive Small Business Award on Small Business Day in Waterbury March 23

MAYOR TO RECEIVE ‘SMALL BUSINESS ADVOCATE AWARD”

Waterbury Mayor Neil M. O’ Leary will receive the U.S. Conference of Mayors, Partner America 2016 Small Business Advocate Award” for his efforts and support of small business in the city.

This special event will take place Wednesday, March 23rd at a Small Business Day event in Waterbury. The award is given by Partner America, a public-private partnership that was created by The U.S. Conference of Mayors to assist mayors in providing the resources and information small businesses need to thrive within their local communities and the global economy.

"Mayors across the country are investing in the future by helping small businesses to grow and create jobs.  Mayor O’Leary is a leader in this arena, and his tireless work to expand job opportunities and revitalize Waterbury through small business development are to be applauded.  We are honored to bestow him with this award," said Tom Cochran, CEO and Executive Director of the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

The event is being hosted by the U.S. Conference of Mayors and the City of Waterbury and will be held at the Veteran’s Memorial Hall in City Hall on March 23rd from 8 to 10 a.m. All small business owners are encouraged to attend. “It is a true honor to receive this award from the U.S. Conference of Mayors, Partner America 2016,” Mayor O’Leary said. “Small businesses are the backbone of Waterbury’s economy, and my administration continues to work hard to support and encourage them.”

Along with Mayor O’Leary, the Mayor’s Director of Economic Development Joseph McGrath will discuss local programs and resources available to small business owners at the March 23 event.

The keynote speaker is Lou Mosca, Executive Vice President and COO, American Management Services. Mosca is a small business expert who has been working with small business owners for the past 25 years. He is major contributor to the New York Bestseller book “Profits Aren’t Everything, They Are the Only Thing,” and has been a speaker at events throughout the country. Lou’s presentation will be on “How Your Business Can Capitalize on an Improving Economy”.
