8/4/2015 - Waterbury Citizens Police Academy accepting applications

Have you ever wondered what goes into making the best Police Department in the State of Connecticut?

Waterbury residents and merchants will get the opportunity to find out first-hand by enrolling in the Fall Citizens Police Academy.

The eight-week program will be held Mondays 6 to 8 p.m. from Sept. 14 through Nov. 2 at the Waterbury Police Department’s Training Division, 240 Bank Street, across from Diorio’s Restaurant.

Participants will receive training in several areas, including overviews on the Waterbury Police Department’s organizational structure and the function of the various police divisions.

They will also tour police headquarters and experience various hands-on demonstrations.

At the end of the eight-week session, participants will also have the opportunity to accompany a police officer on a ride along.

Applicants must be 18 years old and be a Waterbury resident, business owner, or active in the Waterbury community. Because of the sensitive nature of police work, a background check will be completed on all applicants, which includes a criminal history check, warrant check and driver’s license status check. To receive an application please contact Officer Andrea Carr at (203)574-6962 or by email at  acarr@wtbypd.org.

Class size is restricted to the first 20 participants.
