2/14/2015 - Waterbury Water Dept. Reports 42" Water Main Break on Thomaston Ave.

The Waterbury Bureau of Water reports that there was a water main break early Saturday morning, Feb. 14, 2015, on the 42" High Service Transmission main on Thomaston Ave. near the Thomaston town line. A portion of Thomaston Ave. has been washed out as a result of the leak.  The break has been valved shut and repair work has started.  Waterbury customers normally supplied by this main are being supplied by water from the other High Service Transmission line that usually serves the Western High Service area of town.

Because water flow has increased in these lines, there may be areas of discolored water due to the accompanying higher flow velocity.  With time the water quality will improve.  In the interim, customers are encouraged to avoid using washing machines, dishwashers or other water using devices.  Until the repair is completed we ask that customers limit unnecessary water usage to help maintain the water system recovery.

Motorists should avoid using Thomaston Ave. near the Thomaston town line until repairs have been completed and the road has been reopened to traffic.

The Bureau of Water apologizes for any inconvenience caused by this break and reminds all customers that emergency problems can be reported 24/7 by calling 203-574-8251.
