The Waterbury Chapter of UNICO National is accepting applications for local one-time scholarships from students of Italian descent who live in and/or attend school in Waterbury. In addition, applications will be accepted for the 4 four-year national scholarships from students of Italian descent in the Waterbury area.
Applications must be completed in their entirety. All completed applications must be received by the Waterbury Chapter of UNICO no later than April 1, 2015. UNICO National Scholarships are also available for graduate students. These include: Sgt. John Basilone Graduate Scholarship, Dr. Benjamin Cottone Medical Scholarship, Bernard and Carolyn Torraco Memorial Nursing Scholarships, DiMattio Celli Family Study Abroad Scholarship and Ella T. UNICO was founded in 1922 in Waterbury, CT by a group of professional Italian-Americans who were denied membership into a local service organization. They created UNICO to raise promote and preserve the Italian-American culture while doing charitable works in their community. The motto of UNICO is "Service Above Self". Since then, UNICO has developed into the largest Italian-American Service Organization in the United States of America. Currently, there are 5,792 members in 131 chapters in 16 states.
