11/14/2014 - Premier Food Wholesaler Expanding to Waterbury

(WATERBURY, CT) – Mayor Neil M. O’Leary today announced that Restaurant Depot, the nation’s top cash and carry food wholesaler, is slated to open in Waterbury in late 2015.  With over 100 locations across 33 states, Restaurant Depot caters to the foodservice industry.

“Restaurant Depot is a premier brand in its industry and we couldn’t be more pleased to have them in Waterbury,” said Mayor O’Leary.  “On what is now an undeveloped piece of land, the company plans to build a brand new state-of-the art facility, bringing with it at least 40 full time jobs, adding a boost our grand list and the city’s tax base.”

The building, which will be in the 3800 block of East Main Street, will occupy approximately 60,000 square feet of space.  It is the company’s third warehouse to open in the state of Connecticut, with Hartford and Orange warehouses about 45 minutes away in each direction.

“Mayor O'Leary and other city officials have been extremely welcoming to us,” said Larry Cohen, Restaurant Depot’s COO. “They were a key part of putting this deal together.”

Local restaurant and bar owners are looking forward to the arrival as well, due to the cash and carry approach to buying their supplies.  Since the customers shop directly at the store, there is no chance of receiving a damaged or defective product.  Everything at Restaurant Depot can be inspected to insure quality before it is purchased.  There is no minimum purchase required, meaning customers can buy exactly the amount they need without worrying about waste.

“For the first time, small independent restaurants in the Waterbury area will have access to the highest quality and freshest foods that restaurateurs nationwide have been enjoying for years,” said Cohen. “Plus, with savings upwards of 20% over typical distributors, we help the independents not only survive but thrive.”

Restaurant Depot was represented by Kyle Roberts of CBRE while local ownership was represented by Gerry Matthews of Matthews Commercial Properties.
