October 22, 2014 -- Today marked the official opening of the Waterbury Police Activities League (PAL) Park with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Mayor O'Leary along with Curt Spalding the EPA Region 1 Director, DEEP Commissioner Robert Klee and Senators Murphy and Blumenthal spoke about the impact PAL Park has had and will continue to have in the City of Waterbury.
PAL Park was constructed on a 2.2 acre former brownfield site located in the North End of Waterbury, adjacent to the new Jonathan Reed Pre-K to 8th grade school. The inner city parcel was transformed into a state-of-the-art outdoor sports and leisure facility to benefit at-risk youth in keeping with our community policing and problem-solving philosophy.
PAL received funding from Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Housing and Urban Development, American Savings Foundation, the Gregory Spagnoletti Memorial Foundation, and a number of private donations.
