4/17/2014 - Waterbury Water Dept. Reports 42" Water Main Break On Thomaston Ave.

Waterbury Water Department Reports 42” Water Main Break on Thomaston Avenue

The Waterbury Bureau of Water reports that there was a water main break early Thursday morning on the 42” High Service Transmission main on Thomaston Avenue near the Thomaston town line. A portion of Thomaston Avenue has been washed out as a result of the leak. The break has been valved shut and repair work has started. The Waterbury customers normally supplied by this main are being supplied by water from the other High Service Transmission line that usually serves the Western High Service area of town. Because water flow has increased in this line, there may be some areas of discolored water due to the accompanying higher flow velocity in this pipe.

Water levels in some of the City’s water tanks were lower than normal as a result of this break, which resulted in some areas of reduced water pressures earlier this morning. Water tank levels have returned to more normal elevations so water pressures should likewise be returning to normal levels. There may be some areas, however, where water pressures are still below normal ranges. Until the repair is completed we ask that customers limit unnecessary water usage to help maintain the water system recovery.

Motorists should avoid using Thomaston Avenue near the Thomaston town line until repairs have been completed.

The Bureau of Water apologizes for any inconvenience caused by this break and reminds all customers that emergency problems can be reported 24/7 by calling 203-574-8251.
