9/24/2013 - Main Street Waterbury Announces New Event For Downtown Restaurants

Main Street Waterbury is bringing a new event to downtown Waterbury. The event, entitled WINE ON MAIN ST. will be held on Saturday, October 19 from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. It is a combination wine tasting and food stroll. Patrons of the event will be able to sample fine wines and food from across the globe and savor the richness of culture that Waterbury has to offer in approximately 7 downtown restaurants.

Based on a travel theme, groups will depart from the Howland Hughes Center to visit a series of international destinations featuring city and country wines.
Inspired by the highly successful Brass City Brew Fest, Main Street Waterbury has long been requested to do some event involving wine. Rather than opt for the traditional format of bringing many wines for sampling under one roof, organizers have chosen to make the event an adventure by guiding groups from one downtown restaurant to another throughout the course of an afternoon with a “travel around the world theme” featuring regional wines of destination locales.

For example, Braza will salute Rio and South American wines; Courtyard by Marriott, Madrid and Spanish wines; Diorio’s, Rome with Italian wines; Shamrock, Sydney and wines from Australia and New Zealand; Signature’s, will have California wines; Tryst Lounge, Paris and French wines; and City Hall Café, Northern California and Washington State wines.

Overall attendees will be broken down into smaller groups with each group starting their adventure at a different downtown restaurant. Flight attendants will shepherd their group from one restaurant to another with all groups eventually ending up at the arrival gate of Howland Hughes Center. Tickets are priced at $40 per person or $75 per couple. This event is being presented by and for the benefit of Main Street Waterbury.

Main Street Waterbury is a grassroots 501c3 non-profit, downtown management and revitalization program in the context of historic preservation. Through improving the physical appearance of downtown Waterbury, promoting its architectural and cultural assets, organizing volunteer initiatives, sponsoring events, and fostering public/private partnerships, Main Street Waterbury hopes to economically rejuvenate Waterbury’s downtown district without sacrificing its character or heritage.
