HOUSING EXPO BRINGS BIG IDEAS AND GOOD DEALS TO WATERBURY
The 1st annual city-sponsored Housing Expo takes place Saturday, May 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Waterbury Arts Magnet School, 16 South Elm Street. The event is free and open to the public.
Promptly at 10 a.m., Mayor Neil M. O’Leary will provide opening remarks and then partake in a ceremonial signing of the Clean Energies Community Municipal Pledge, confirming the city’s commitment to clean energy, as well as to the new Energize Waterbury Initiative that provides incentives to Waterbury businesses and residents to improve energy efficiency.
The City of Waterbury is partnering with a number of neighborhood groups, nonprofits, and community organizations to offer residents and potential first-time home buyers an opportunity to learn more about housing and housing improvement opportunities, what is happening in the real estate market, how to save money through energy efficiency, and many other programs and services.
The City will host over 30 exhibitors from around the city and state that will cover every segment of the housing industry. Public information booths will include representatives from the Public Works Dept., Waterbury Blight Task Force, Board of Education, Litter Control and Beautification Commission, Dept. of Public Health, New Opportunities, Inc., Brass City Harvest, and dozens more.
Educational seminars, which promise new ideas and practical advice, will feature the latest trends in home energy solutions presented by Connecticut Light and Power, and a homebuyer’s forum will be presented by Webster Bank and the Greater Waterbury Board of Realtors, Inc.
“Money Trek” seminars on tips and trends from experts will be available for those looking to rebuild credit and improve financial literacy.
The event will also include a “Green Corner”-- booths focused on innovative products and solutions that can transform your home and make it more energy efficient, safe and comfortable.
Home Depot will be hosting a Kids’ Workshop, a hands-on learning experience for children.
Visitors will have a chance at winning a series of raffle prizes from the Mayor’s Property Re-Use Committee, as well as from several exhibitors.
