The Naugatuck River is Waterbury's primary natural resource. Today, a new vision places value on this resource in the heart of the city. Waterbury's new plan of conservation and development recognizes the Greenway as the principal component of an interconnected open space plan with a trail that will run through Waterbury and connect to the Greenway of other valley cities and towns.

The Waterbury Naugtuck River Greenway will serve as a sustainable transportation corridor, provide recreation opportunities for residents and visitors, improve quality of life, and attract new businesses.
