Emergency Preparedness Division/Bio-Terrorism

Identifies the public health roles and responsibilities to respond to a public health emergency within the Waterbury Health Department's jurisdiction, including a bio-terrorist event.

Housing Code Enforcement, food protection program.  Handles public health nuisance complaints, conducts inspections of public pools, child day care centers, and private sewage disposal systems .

 

Healthy Choices for Women and Children (203) 597-3417

Voluntary program for pregnant women who use or are at risk of using, or whose partners use alcohol or drugs, or are at risk of domestic violence.  Services include case management with intensive home visiting, prevention education, parenting education, domestic violence planning, and assistance with housing and transportation.

 

Immunization Action Plan Program (203) 574-6880

Addresses issues surrounding childhood immunizations focusing primarily on birth to age 3 population. Provides health education materials regarding immunizations, informative presentations, and free monthly immunization clinics for Waterbury residents, ages 0 to 18 years old.  Call for more information and dates.

 

 

 

Public Health Nursing Division

Registered Nurses provide:

  • Comprehensive school health services to public, parochial and private schools, including home visits to school children from preschool to high school ages

  • Investigation, tracking and follow-up education to residents with reportable communicable diseases

  Clinic Services as follows:

 

  • Adult Immunization ( fee for this service ) - Provides Hepatitis B, Td, MMR, PPD (TB testing) for the general public (2 times per month, call clerk)

  • Chest Consultation Services ( appointment required ) - Provides evaluation and follow- up of Tuberculin reactors and persons with Tuberculosis disease

  • P.P.D. Testing ( fee for this service ) - Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8:00 am to 12 noon only

  • Sexually Transmitted Diseases [STD] ( Bilingual (English/Spanish) services available )  - Provides free and confidential testing and treatment

    Clinic Schedule:

    • Adult Immunization/Hepatitis B (fee for this service ) : Held twice a month; call for dates/times

    • Chest Consultation Services (appointment required ) : Held at St. Mary's Hospital 2-3 Mondays per month at 9:00 am

    • STD Clinic ( Minors can be examined/treated without parental consent; Bilingual (English/Spanish) services available) : Tuesdays   8:30 am, Thursdays 12:30 pm

     

    WIC Supplementary Food Program

    WIC is a supplementary food program for pregnant and breast feeding and post-partum women; infants and children under 5 years of age.  WIC provides healthy foods and nutrition education.  Eligibility is based on income and nutritional need.

    NOW Office :  232 North Elm Street, Waterbury

    NOW Office Hours : 9:00 am to 12:00 pm 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm  ( appointment required;  Bilingual (English/Spanish) services available )
